Yuurn

History:

Once an overworld dwelling being until an event they named “Violent Mother” resulted in dangerous storms and thickening atmosphere making it difficult to breath. Also new creatures appeared which also were scared and would often attack. The Yuurn decided to retreat into underground caves and over time grew accustomed to the dim light and claustrophobic cave networks. Generations later A mostly cave dwelling humanoid species which prefers their dim lit and claustrophobic cave network to “Overworld” life as they call the surface dwelling Ori. Yuurn follow a Lawful Neutral ethos, though their civilization is built mainly on strength with fights a regular occurrence both among friends, families and enemies. The first war between the Yuurn and Ori was when many of the Ori were beaten to death upon their meeting and thus taken as an act of aggression. Yuurn have several towns and cities situated under most large mountains including human named “Deathspire” just north of “Daggerfell”.

Civilization:

The Yuurn pride themselves on power and brute strength, which is seen as needed in a strong leader. Thus their society is built mainly on strength with fights a regular occurrence both among friends, families and enemies.

Each city has an official who oversees its development and growth, but also is required to maintain a normal job unless they are a member of a large city where administration duties can take an entire day. Any mature Yuurn (male or female), who has lived in the village/town/city for at least 3 years may participate in ‘Gala’ an armed conflict in which each participant must win a tournament style battle (death results often). The current offical must then fight the challenger to maintain their position or cede it. Each city forms its own “republic” and can make alliances and rivals however the citizens see fit.

Most citizens of a village/town/city are miners who dig tunnels, maintain current tunnels, and bring stone, metal and other debris back to their village/town/city for processing. Forgers and metal smiths are artisan trades requiring being taken on as a assistant. Uniquely specialized jobs like textile and woodsmith (lumberjack/woodcrafts) exist in large cities near the surface. Engineering is a new field of the Yuurn which utilizes the production and use of electricty.

Biology:

Yuurn are large humanoid creatures with 4 arms and additional muscles in their back to support the extra appendages. They stand 5-6ft on average and eat stones with high mineral content and various plant life including lichen, carrots, potatos, and other root vegetables. While berries, nuts and other tree fruits are a rare/seasonal luxury.

Yuurn are separated by gender, male and female, but do not mate for life. Once a year females will expel her eggs into a spawning vat to be fertilized by the males later. After 9 months young Yuurn climb out of the vat and are sent off to their assigned work as determined by the village/town/city
